Skelmersdale is best summed up as a strange place, be prepeared to get stuck in and meed some 'interesting' people. Geographically strange too, no traffic lights a silly amount of roundabouts and no real town centre. Mostly just a collection of housing estates in the central part, and rural outbeats surrounding. Don't think i've ever been anywhere quite like Skem! Oh, and you wont be police anymore, you're 'bizzies' Good Luck!
This made me laugh, brings back memories of trying to find my way around there for work, using only an A-Z and my nose. Even the people who live there didn't know how to get about! EVentually, you get back to the starting roundabout! What is it with the roundabouts!?!?

Its made up of 4 areas, these are Digmoor, Tanhouse, Birch Green and Ashurst.
All the streets are grouped alphabteically;
Digmoor has 3 parts, one part contains all the B's for example Beechtrees. Part 2 contains all the C's for example Cornbrook (they are all one word names) and part 3 contains all the A's (eg Alderley)
Tanhouse is even more simple, any one letter street beginning with E is in Tanhouse. For example Evington, Egerton and so on.
Birch Green again is split in to three parts beginning in F, H and I. Example names are Fawcett, Heathgate and Inskip.
Ashurst similarly is split in two parts, with the estates beginning in M and L. For example Lindens, and Manfield.
There are also 3 Industrial estates, named Gillibrands, Pimbo and Stanley.
Pimbo is alphabetically grouped with every road starting with P, eg Pikelaw Place
Gillibrands is grouped to G's, eg Glebe Road
Stanley is grouped to S's, eg Seddon Place.
There is also Old Skelmersdale, which was around before they built all these new estates. They tend to have more conventional names such as High Steeet. However there are a few "new builds" there and these all start in W or T, eg Wolverton, Tanfields.
All of the streets mentioned above are cul-de-sacs, and none link to the other. There are however many alleys and cut throughs which are fantastic for offenders to get away quickly. Skem has very few pavements so you will either see people walking in the road, or using the footpaths/subways through the estates to get around. The pushbike is the chariot of choice for most folk.
Once you learn where the areas are and how to get to it you will find Skelmersdale probably the easiest to navigate place in the UK. It is merely a series of dual carriageway ring roads linked with large estates. The main trunk road through Skelmersdale is Grimshaw Road. There is an outer ring road which changes name dependant on where you are in Skelmersdale, ie Railway Road, Stannanought Road.
The main shopping precinct is called The Concourse, this is next to the Police Station, The Library and a swimming pool. The only other major shopping area is Asda.
If you have any questions just ask, as I'm sure I have missed bits.

I used to serve in Skelmersdale as a special, but have now moved to pastures new. Unfortunately half mile island is no longer the largest roundabout in europe, if I remember correctly that is now somewhere in Holland?
