I started in March and have been training until yesterday where I had to hand in my resignation (Going to be a reg in Gwent). Main advice I would give is:-
1. Don't be afraid to ask a question, any question at all is worth asking because someone else will be thinking what you are!
2. Do volunteer for role-play exercises. It is the best way you will learn and it is the safest place to make a mistake. Do it in front of your mates and have a laugh about it but you will take something from it!
3. Read. Read. Read. Read. Learn the caution, Learn it again. Learn the radio codes. The phonetic alphabet. and read more!
4. Most of all! Enjoy it and the mates you will make there. Go on nights outs get to know each other and have a laugh.
I am gutted that I have had to leave Specials even though I have been offered a full time role which I have wanted for years! Specials will always be home to me and it is sad to leave such a great bunch of people!
Right, time for me to stop being a sop! Enjoy it! Attestation will be before you know it!
