Quite new to the forum and have have previously posted only a couple of posts on here! Just wanted to ask if anybody here is currently a Special in Nottinghamshire, and if they would be able to give some insight into what the role has been like, what different stations people are based at etc. Also wondering how long the process has taken for previous applicants? Just submitted my application so any insight or help would be appreciated!!

im on the most recent intake into the specials, i have one for days training then im done. the whole process for me started on october 16th then progressed through paper sift, pirt, interview, fitness test, medical then vetting. i started training on May 15th and i finish training on sunday 5th september, so basically not much change out of a years worth of work. but well worth it and very rewarding.
hope this helps

Throughout the whole process did you receive communication by email, telephone etc? Also wondered what your opinion is on what the whole process has been like, weather any stage was particullary harder than any other?
Thanks

i was contacted after the completion of each stage via letter, if any further information was required by the force they generally emailed or called me. the vetting was the longest part and i thought at one stage i had been unsucessful due to the length of time but no. i dont think the process can be necessarily improved due to the volumes of people applying they do a good job with it. training however is a different matter. some weekends were shorter than others an d potentially could have been combined with other days to reduce overall length but other than that, its spot on. i get my uniform in 9 Hours :-D
if you need anything else guys feel free to ask

I'm currently doing my training for Notts Specials. I submitted my application in Jan this year. So give yourself upto 10/11 months of interviews, fitness tests, medicals, vetting, phone calls and the like, then the fun starts.
I'm in my 3rd weekend of training and so far it's been very interesting (despite it all being classroom based at the moment). Most of our intake were initially due to start training in Jan 2011 but we were bumped up to Nov 2010. So here's hoping to you lot getting in nice and quick too.
Hope this gives you a tiny insight as to what to expect in the future. Any questions.....just ask

I am currently in week 6 of training to become a Special and I aim to apply for PC as soon as humanly possible as unfotunately external PC recruitment is still not available. I am looking to contribute 20 hours per week towards being a Special, and this is realistic as my current self employed work means that I do about 30 hours a week but only in two days, leaving five whole days per week of free time.
However i just had a thought, if i contribute 20hrs a week as an unpaid Special, will that mean that I am more or less likely to be accepted as a PC?, because on one hand i am showing to be hightly commited and enthusiastic however on the other hand, if the police have someone who is contributing that many unpaid hours, they might want to leave me working unpaid etc. Just a thought that popped into my head.
Cheers
