So accents do you find them sexy?.

Northern, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, West Country, Cockney?

Which one do you prefer and why.

My other half is originally from Newcastle one of the influential reasons why I am in a relationship with her (besides others, just incase she is reading) is her Northern accent. For me it is a real turn on.

So whats your preference?

Edit to add Scottish

I'm welsh... and as some of the members here will probably tell you, have a rather welsh accent.

I have a thing for Scottish accents though (being part scottish and lots of my family having the accent). When someone says my name in a scottish accent I go weak at the knees

I do actually. My husband is Scots (Fife) however his accent has softened as he hasn't spent any length of time living there since he was 17 as he's been in the Navy. So tomorrow, we will mostly be watching the 'Fitbaw' in our house!

I'm from Lancashire and thankfully, even though I left Lancashire for Tenerife (long story) 21 years ago at the age of 19, my Northern accent is still going strong....prolly, 'appen, mebbes!

I love Justin Lee Collins on the telly for his West Country accent. Very funny.

My overall preference has to be Scots. For obvious reasons.

I hate Cockney accents on most people.. And refuse on principle to watch Eastenders as a result, the fact it's rubbish anyway notwithstanding.

I quite like the Scouse accent though, and have imitated it myself on a number of occassions, I picked up a slight Scouse accent from 20 years of watching Brookside, lol.

I personally speak quite broad Yorkshire, sometimes a bit too broad much to the annoyance of Mum.

I agree with that.

I also quite like female Northern Irish accents; being in Glasgow, so many of them come over for university.

There is a good bit of variety there too despite being a fairly small place.

Indeed, I used to like Ruth Madoc when she was in Hi De Hi for her accent, and more recently I've been in love with Catherine Zeta Jones since she was in Mask of Zorro, cos she looked PHWOOAR sexay in 19th Century Mexican period frocks.

Being from the area myself, I quite like the NE Scottish accent, especially from the Fraserburgh/Buchan area. It has a certain, erm...robustness about it. It is so 'robust' that the BBC series 'Trawlermen' had to be subtitled in parts!

Speaking to my grandfather this weekend, I realised that not only has the regional dialect been extremely watered-down over a couple of generations, but the accent (i.e. the sounds and flow) itself is much weaker now too.

Has anyone in other regions has noticed this?

Has greater access to American/Aussie/other region's TV, movies, music, internet etc caused a dilution/corruption of the regional accent in your area?

There is a bit of that, I know when I went to College in the former South Humberside in the early 90s, I had to soften my Yorkshire accent quite considerably to be understood by a College full of North Londoners.. But they still extracted the wee wee about my accent and the basic fact I was from anywhere North of the flippin' Watford Gap!

They have probably moved on since your time, I have only come across a handful of officers both male and female from the North, a couple of police staff as well.

I agree it is a nice accent, although cant beat a Newcastle one

as for the dilution of accents and dialects this does appear to be happening more and more

if i was to talk in a broad cumbrian dialect no on would understand me

Aas ganna lowp ower yon yat = i'm goin to jump over that gate

He cowped awer an landed smack on his fizzog = He fell over and landed on his face

He lamped 'im fur deekin at 'is bewer. = He hit the poor gentleman for glancing at his lady-friend

as a few examples
