the inhouse training was carried out by a professional covering the law surrounding use of force, what can go wrong how to maintain your equipment etc

it was a good bit of training but i suspect only enough to cover the legal minmums for getting insurance cover, I said the idea of only police having cuffs was naive I know how to safely use cuffs and as i say was happy to if it was needed (never was)

as for the security postion i look back and cringe, carrying cuffs with zero training (just told to take a pair from a large cardboard box) but i was young and to be frank thought it was quite cool that i got to carry them

having just reread this whole thread it strikes me that a few posters seem to think its the job of the police to enforce whatever they THINK the law should be

the law stands that security can carry cuffs (I belive its the view of the regulating authority- SIA but I can't remember where I read this) that with the correct training and insurance security staff are permitted to carry and use cuffs - thats a gov authority with more legal authority and legal advice then anyone on here saying yes they can have them

if the governement put it in writing that security could carry firearms (in the form of law which is about as likely to happen as me turning into a rabbit) there is nothing that anyone could do except moan a ittle more
