hey all just like to see what everybody else thinks, about bedfordshire police having a group on facebook, in which the public can highlight problems and seek advice, i personally feel its a great move, and makes the public-police relation a lot more accessible for all ages.. though it of course is not the be all and end all, with the majority of elderly and many others not using facebook, but one again i beleive a step in the right direction with the policing pledge in focus.
check it out through this link

seems like a good idea, as long as it doesn't affect the officers who work there.

Well I must admit I found the following rather amusing on their page (particularly the reply from Bed's)...

IF I WANTED TO DATE A POLICEMAN IS THERE ANY FUNCTIONS ETC THAT YOU GUYS GO TO SO I COULD MEET ONE PLEASE > THANKS

Hi Jo! Have you thought about joining the police or becoming a Special Constable? That way you would meet lots of police officers!

Maybe I'm taking it too seriously, but come on, are they trying to run a police force or a dating agency? :D

Saying that she's not bad looking, I may drop her a message... :D

Just to warn you, proffesional standards will not look kindly on this idea.

No mention of bedfordshire police is to be posted on any serving beds police officers facebook pages, sorry to disapoint you.

It's alright I was joking about messaging her - in anycase I'm not from Beds Police. Out of interest, have Beds put this facebook 'ban' in place because they are doing such a good job of their own page?

I'm just surprised you have the internet in Beds! :D

But Herts have got the same ban going on to say there should be no reference on officers profiles to the force.

Wasn't aiming that at you in particular Giraffe, just in general to those who are in beds police that may join the group.

And yeh im not a scrooge, honest.
They do regular checks(apprently) on PC's and SC's profiles to check for ANYTHING related to Beds Police

Wow facebook police... i have to agree some messages do seem a bit stupid like 'the dating officers' comment , but it is all taken in good humour and you can see that from the response... but things about community engagement and subsequent meetings etc...are all posted and the informative use seems to work well.
I was not aware of a facebook ban through forces, though a friend recentley applied for norfolk, and in the application it asked for the websites of any blog websites they had (i.e facebook, myspace, etc)
Perhaps this is an appropriate measure, what do you guys think, as surely the same argument can be used here as the argument being used for more CCTV in public... nothing to hide = nothing to worry about. :D

I must admit I have been a member of this group on Facebook for sometime... from what I've seen Bedfordshire Police are quite active at keeping fresh information on this page, along with a few photo's and video's. (Including this one )

I think Bedfordshire Police have made a good move by creating this group, you could argue that it's not potentially accessible to everybody, but I think you'd have that argument with whatever medium used.

675 fans, not bad!

I think that the Herts/Beds forums should be merged.
Our forces are doing it, why shouldn't we?

I agree, as both forces are collaborating in many ways it may well make sense from a force perspective. But would it make sense from the publics point of view?

I'm not so sure about merging the 2 forums together, personally looking at it from a public point of view, I live in Bedfordshire and would naturally assume to find a Bedfordshire forum, my first instinct wouldn't be to look in the Hertfordshire forum.

Maybe there could be a way of advertising links in the forums to the other forums i.e. Beds advertising Herts, Herts advertising Beds?

Just a thought...

Well as its been mentioned, im sure we are soon to be Herts and Beds, there is devon n cotton-wool aswell!
Lots of people have mentioned the lack of activity on the forum so joining the two together may be a good idea, the thing with the police is you'll find 99% of the things are the same anyways!

Everything does seem to point to a "merger", no matter how many times people say both forces are just collaborating. At the end of the day Bedfordshire is a very small force, I think Herts is not particularly large (I may be wrong though). It may be what both forces need.

Just my opinion however.

This is quite interesting, i can remember reading the original merger of forces, and i believe hert, beds and essex were to be merged (but obviously this didnt happen) maybe a good thing for bed police, but would the bigger forces perhaps lose out, i mean essex has soo many moterways and coastal towns to look after hence they have an expensive helicopter! would they be prepared to share?? interesting ??

I recall that being mentioned in the dim distant past also. The idea may have been shelved, then the collaboration between Herts and Beds emerged. It may happen if the already successful joint ventures continue. But then again does it necessarily mean a merger is on the cards, only time will tell.

Bedfordshire Police

Meet the Chief - Would you like to get to know the new 'Top Cop' of Bedfordshire?
The Facebook team would like to invite you to a 'Meet the Chief' session on Friday 18th March, 11am till 12 noon.
Chief Constable Alfred Hitchcock will be available live online to answer your questions on the future of policing in Bedfordshire, what he thinks of our county so far or even what his favourite cop movie is...

Just thought I'd put this here in case anyone was interested in following the 'live' webchat with the CC of Bedfordshire Police.

I just hope it goes well considering some of the pond life that inhabit the BedsPol Facebook site.
