So then.... who's going to be doing duties over the festive period and new year?
I'm not going to be doing Christmas Eve for the third year in a row, but will definitely doing New Years although I have promised my other half that next year I will celebrate the coming of 2011 with her.
Rich.

Were as patient as we could be to get the person back through their own front door... last thing we wanted was to arrest anyone thus spoiling ours and their Christmas.
Person decides they aint getting out the van, upon some persuasion by us, they decide to hoof one of our number in the stomach and kind of took the decicion re; arrest right out of our hands!
net result=
tucked up in custody at stupid O'clock Christmas morning, late home, late to bed... late getting up, late to the (then) girlfriend's parents for dinner, almighty ear bashing from the missus, and eventually upholding that fine christmas tradition of falling asleep in the arm chair (cue further moaning from the woman!!)
On the plus side, managed to escape washing up and the festive doom and gloom on Albert square!
god bless the inside of my eye-lids.
...and while i was stuffing myself with turkey, all the trimmings, wine, christmas pud etc, did i stop to think of poor arrested person spending christmas alone in a cell with a cornish pasty?..
...Hmmmmmm... yeah right!!!!!

Been there, done that, not doing either this year. Last time I worked New Years Eve we had a major incident declared minutes before we were due to knock off to end our 10-hour shift... ended up cordoning off a mahoosive area of the town and spent all night standing in the cold guarding my section of "Police - Do not cross" tape. Got home in the not-so-early hours of the morning and crawled off to bed... and a few days later we discovered the person involved in the incident had cried wolf and nothing untoward had happened at all...So then.... who's going to be doing duties over the festive period and new year?
I'll be working Black Friday as per normal (always a good 'un!!) and then that's it for me and policing in 2009.

Met a lovely lady from one of the nearby houses who kept me supplied with tea and sausages on sticks that were leftover from her New Years party, though!!

Never working New Years Eve again, worked Blandford one year 20 officers,6 cars, 1 van, 1 dog unit, custody open and a Partridge in a pear tree. Not 1 job all night, sat and watched Life of Brian and tried not to eat the food laid out. Rubbish.
Merry Christmas!
Humbug.

I can assure you that your new station is much different and you will be kept busy all night if previous years are anything to go by.

I'll be alright, I can't speak for you, depends if you've dropped your contacts down the plug hole!
Apparently Shineyshoes is a party animal similar to the one we visited last friday!

Guys im just looking for advice... Whats christmas day like.. if anyone has been on duty ? Im looking to do quite a few of the holiday shifts... otherwise id be sitting around the house bored with the parents... would it be similar but in the station ?
It's usually a case of sitting round eating and having a laugh with your colleagues - criminals generally tend to celebrate Christmas with their families, so it can be very dull indeed. Having said that, there's always the chance of a drunken brawl in a pub or a domestic... Personally I'd rather spend my time at my parents house - most of the regs will think you're more bonkers than ever for turning up (for free!) on the one day they really don't want to work.
