Frequently Asked Questions

This course is ideal for those who are...

Thinking of joining the police as a Special or Regular

Being a Police Officer (Special or Regular) is a demanding, challenging and very rewarding occupation. Because of the daily challenges and aspects of Policing the training required is tough, and will not only test qualities such as communication skills and self motivation but will also test your knowledge on laws and procedure. This course will give you an insight into the academic training that you will be required to do, should you apply and be successful. Good luck with your application!

Serving Special Constables

Specials already juggle work, home life, hobbies and the Special Constabulary and we all know that the training provided by Police Services in the UK can be very limited and takes up more of our valuable time. Although this learning package is primarily aimed at Probationary Constables it is also perfect for Special Constables who are keen to better their knowledge and skills.

Waiting to start as a Special or Regular

By now you have spent months in the application stage, you have passed all the tests so far and you have been accepted. This is an exciting time and you probably can't wait to start. You have no doubt spoken to friends or colleagues who have recently been through the Probationer Foundation Course - they probably tell you that the studying is tough. This course gives you an opportunity to arrive for your first day already grounded in much of the legislation that you will need to know.  Make good use of the time before you commence work, and give yourself a head start!

New police probationers in training

As a probationer constable undergoing initial in-force training, you will already have realized that the studying is quite intensive, and be spending most of your spare time with your head in a book trying to understand and remember mountains of information.  Wouldn't it be good if you could listen to a lesson on the subject first to give you a good understanding before you started your reading? By doing this your studies will become easier because you know the subject before you start. This package also provides an excellent method of revision and quickly remind you of all the points you need to remember.
