Important Forum Update - 6th November 2012
Sorry for the downtime last night and this morning, someone was able to add a redirect to every post but this has now been fixed. This has happened before and a fix was applied, however this seems to be a vulnerability in the forum software. We will notify the forum developers again and hopefully they will be able to issue us with a security patch. Sorry it took nearly 15 hours to fix but it happened outside of office hours and we have very little support during those hours. We have one or two mods that help run our forum sites, they are very dedicated and have done a great job jumping on at almost any hour of the day to help fix problems. Sadly Police Specials couldn't be fixed until we all got back in to the office due to access restricted to a select few IP addresses.
I'd like to reassure you that this was a simple javascript redirect and no account information was compromised. People like this will always find a way around any security fix that is provided to us, there are groups constantly looking for vulnerabilities in software and finding ways to disrupt our service for their own pleasure and gains, but we will always try and react as quickly as possible and keep you up-to-date.
Due to the nature of our forums we do seem to attract certain groups, however security and your community experience is of upmost importance to us. It may not seem it with the current run of interruptions, but we are constantly trying to improve its performance and keep the bad guys from doing bad things. We take every preventative measure we can, but we are always going to be a step behind because we can only react to what happens on the site. We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes and would like to thank you for your patience.
